National Seminar on Jordan

Amman, 13 - 14 January 2007
Following the first national seminar held in Casablanca in November 2006, the Working Group held a second seminar in Amman on the topic of the “Independence and impartiality of the Judiciary – Jordan”

The focus of the Amman Seminar was to describe and discuss the situation of the Jordanian judiciary and the main obstacles and challenges related to its full independence and impartiality. The Seminar gathered a large number of judges, lawyers, representatives of the Ministry of Justice and other Jordanian judicial institutions, ONGs and other actors of the Jordanian civil society as well as representatives or international organisations and institutions based in Jordan.

The seminar was co-organized by the EMHRN WG on Justice and the Amman Centre for Human Rights Studies (ACHRS) with the support of the European Union, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and the Ministry of Justice of Belgium.
