Regional Seminar
 

The regional seminar “Building Bridges Amongst Judges”, co-organised with the CIHRS, was held in Cairo on 2-3 May 2009. It gathered about 60 participants on the first day and 40 on the second day. Participants were Egyptians judges, lawyers, NGO representatives as well as judges and other experts from other Arab countries (Algeria, Palestine, Lebanon) and from Europe (France, Spain, Italy, Austria). The discussions focused mainly on the current situation of the judiciary in Egypt following the recent elections within the Judges Club and on how to strengthen and sustain the cooperation between judges of the region and between judges from the region and from Europe. The participants agreed on the idea of establishing a virtual network of Arab judges via an Internet site and the EMHRN offered to support and encourage this initiative by providing technical and material support to the website to be established.
