European Neighbourhood Policy

The European Neighbourhood Policy  (ENP)  was developed with the objective of avoiding the emergence of new dividing lines between the enlarged EU and its neighbours and instead strengthening stability, security and well-being for all concerned.
The ENP offers priviledged relationships with EU neighbours based on mutual commitments to common values in the fields of rule of law, good governance, human rights, promotion of good neighbourly relations, and the principles of market economy and sustainable development.

 

Objectives

Launched in 2003:

  • To create a ‘ring of friends’
  • “To share the benefits of the EU’s 2004 enlargement”
  • To strengthen Security, Stability, Well-being
  • To develop a mutual commitment to common values especially the rule of law, good governance, the respect for HR
  • To enhance economic relations and closer cooperation
